Translated by Chandra Candiani / Introduction by Phap Ban
My joy is like Spring, so warm
it makes flowers bloom all over the Earth.
My pain is like a river of tears,
so vast it fills the four oceans.
Please call me by my true names,
so I can hear all my cries and laughter at once,
so I can see that my joy and pain are one.
it makes flowers bloom all over the Earth.
My pain is like a river of tears,
so vast it fills the four oceans.
Please call me by my true names,
so I can hear all my cries and laughter at once,
so I can see that my joy and pain are one.
The book
Chiamami con i miei veri nomi (Call Me by My True Names) is a collection of poems by Zen Master Thich Nhat Hanh and it is divided into two sections, i.e. The historical dimension and The ultimate dimension. In this intimate book, the famous monk acts like a bridge between art and religion, lyric poetry and philosophy, daily reality and ultimate reality. The poems, translated by Chandra Candiani, reflect the world we live in, resting on a subtle plot made of Buddhist doctrine: they powerfully gush out a deep compassion that permeates each and every word of this work. Ideally, the verses should be read out loud, as if they were the instructions of a guided meditation, so as to fully appreciate the message of hope that informs them. The introduction is authored by Phap Ban, the monk name of Claudio Panarese, who was ordained as monk in the Thich Nhat Hanh tradition in 2010.
